The news came down from on high that Panini will no longer hold the license necessary to develop a Dragonball Z card game. This was devastating news. While there were rumors floating around, and rumors of rumors, and the testimony of some comic book shop's owner's former roommate's sister's ex-boyfriend, it came as a surprise to many, including me.
A lot of the great content about the DBZ TCG is conveyed in video, and so here is a round-up of some of the recent videos that I found useful, informative, or entertaining.
Red Ascension Trunks Vs. Black Perceptive Cell
If you want an example of the power of Trunks and speed anger, pumping at all cylinders, watch this video. The Cell is at the complete mercy of those combat enders and the free anger Red Ascension provides. If you aren't stocking your decks with counters to these types of decks, get ready to suffer the same fate as Cell.
The DBZ World Championship has come and gone, and it was a wild one. Goku made a splash, but the ultimate winner was Roshi. The top two decks have been posted for your viewing pleasure:
The OP season is over, and I'm ready to settle in for some more casual play. Personally, I've been testing decks built around Tao and Broly. What about you?
Swarms and swarms of mini-Cells. The new Cell Jr. MP stack just revealed offers a different way to play allies, and some of the most versatile deck-building options, given that he can be the center of Namekian and Saiyan decks.
As soon as I started reading the new Hercule stack, I got a big smile on my face. You can tell the designers had a lot of fun coming up with this set. And if they're having this much fun, it bodes well for the future of the game. The Hercule Main Personality cards reflect the personality of the in-show Hercule character perfectly. It's one long joke...but with a punchline (ha...haha) at the end that could do some real damage.
Previously, I gave a rundown of the new Blue mastery and Goku's MP stack. You can view those thoughts here. This will dive a bit deeper into the new Vegeta MP stack and the new Ultra Rare that was revealed: Assisted Kamehameha.
The first previews for the next DBZ set, Awakening, dropped late Friday. And wow.
One of the problems for beginners coming into the game is knowing what cards to focus on acquiring from older sets. You can guess, but until you've played the game a bit, tested the waters, and get a feel for the current meta-game, you really don't know what cards are truly valuable, and what might continue to synergize well with newer cards.
Welcome. I've only been playing the DBZ TCG for a few months, but I love it, and I love the friendliness of the community.
While going through the process of building decks, I ran into some hurdles as a beginner. With (at the time) 5 sets of cards out, it was daunting. Which cards should I focus on? Was there a way to easily search through all of the cards? I had been burned by other card games in the past by "buying the wrong thing." Like Ice Age for Magic, way back in the day.
